Iniubong Essien, a citizen of Akwa-Ibom  disclosed to the public how a friend of hers, Aniedi, and her newly weded husband, Uduak Godwin Nseobot popularly known as King Pele, an outstanding Councillor representing the Southern II, ward 6 in Ibiono Ibom LGA, took her, stripped her  and almost assaulted her.

Based on the story she shared, She said she was impeached of stealing the couples money which was sprayed on them by their guest on their wedding day. The wedding which took place at Usenten, Akwa Ibom State on the 3rd of November, 2018.

Iniubong Essien, said that she taken to the community square (At the meeting place of the council lawmaker in Akwa-Ibom) to retaliate and take false justice on her for stealing their money. She alleged that she was stripped naked,tied up with ropes all around her waist, beaten with sticks, they also threw stones at her and took her round the whole village.

She spoke out bitterly how they broke different kind of bottles on her head and battered her badly. How the Councilor, Mr Godwin, and other community people around took her nude pictures and posted them on the social media for the whole world to see and make mockery of her.

She said because she happens to be a friend to the newly wed bride, she rendered to help her in selling the clothes (Popularly known as aso-ebi) she used for her wedding to their other friends. As a friend of the bride, she attended the wedding, assisted her in serving the food to the guest that were present in the hall while one of the bride friends, Gloria, during the time of the nuptial dance rendered assistance to the couples by helping them in picking up the money they had sprayed on them. She said the serving of the food was at the back of the hall and she took her leave during the vote of thanks because she had another traditional marriage She would be attending that very day and more also in that same neighborhood.

Iniubong said, She was invited to the couples home a day after the event at Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, and she had informed them that she would not be able to pay them a visit now but promised to visit them later in order for her to render account of the clothes she had sold for them and jokingly told the couples to continue enjoying their honeymoon. She said she was still resting on her bed in her house when her friend, the newly wed bride, Aniedi suddenly showed up in her house and knocked ,and she opened the door for her to come on in. Her friend, Aniedi,  thanked her  for all her support during the period that her wedding took place and also invited her to come and say hello to her husband, Godwin, who was in the car alongside with Gloria and one other person who was also in the car with them. When the accused victim got to the car, they asked her to enter into the car which she sort as an opportunity for her to go to the ATM so as for her to withdraw the clothe money and which she wanted to give them.

After giving them the money ,her friend husband, Pele instead of taking her back home took her to the village square and started calling upon people to tell her to confess where she had kept the money.

She said

“I asked them which money?”

At that point her friend husband, Nseobot gave order to his boys to strip her naked in the middle of the crowd and  started grinding charcoal to to rub on her.

She said : “My friend husband Personal assistant then asked him where he had kept his gun, in order to kill me and was busy fuming saying that haven’t I heard about Pele in Eket. His PA also included that nothing would happen if he killed me because his boss,King Pele is being backed up by the prominent politicians in the state.”

She said she kept begging them to let her go but they refused. The councillor himself (King Pele) told her that he would murder her, and bury her without anyone awareness. She then said that she told them that if they killed her now or today, the truth about her death will surely be exposed one day and her innocent blood will not dry in the land of Ibiono. She added that they broke bottles on her head and took her nude, and posted it on social media for the whole world to see her disdainful act.

Iniubong Essien, said after begging them to set her free for a long time, they concluded on taking her to a native doctor for a “Native finding”. The villagers took small four (4) buses and some other cars, on their way to the place a friend of the councillor called him,warned him and told him not to go to the place of the native doctor because there will surely be consequences for his disdainful act and he immediately stopped the community people and took her to the Police Headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia and handed her over to the police men in the station.

The Lawyer of the accused victim, Bailey Chambers, put up a strong worded petition to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, of Akwa Ibom for battering, assualting, attempted murder and threating the life of his client.

The International Federation of Women Lawyers,the Akwa Ibom state branch, also took actions in the matter and aligned with her Lawyers. The International Federation of Women Lawyers, also equally petition the state Commissioner of Police,the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. They ensure that the association would follow up with the case to the end of it and ensure that justice is served.

The victim, Iniubong has made her complaint to the court and ensuring that justice must be served for has been done to her. She is also demanding for the ransom of ₦10 million naira as damages for all the torture they did to her, for assaulting her and accusing her falsely.
